Elisabeth Shearon, M.D.
Medical Director

Elisabeth C. Shearon, M.D., is a board-certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist and was fellowship-trained in breast pathology at The Lynn Sage Breast Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She is certified in Breast Predictive Factors Testing through the College of American Pathologist’s Advanced Practical Pathology Program and performs breast prognostic marker testing at PCL Alverno. She attended the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Dr. Shearon serves as Medical Director at PCL Alverno. PCI pathologists collaborate and confer on difficult cases, providing both depth to our clinicians and confidence to the patients we serve.



Judy Lyzak, M.D., M.B.A.,
PCL Alverno Vice President of Medical Affairs

Judy Lyzak, M.D., M.B.A., is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She received her B.A. in Biological Sciences from Southern Illinois University and attended Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She trained in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston, Texas and the University of Chicago. She subsequently completed her M.B.A. at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Dr. Lyzak is the Vice President of Medical Affairs for PCL Alverno and is instrumental in identifying best practices in laboratory medicine and facilitating implementation of those practices throughout the hospitals PCI serves.



Bing Zhu, M.D., Ph.D.

Bing Zhu, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified hematopathologist, fellowship trained at University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her residency at Northwestern University and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.  Dr. Zhu also completed a fellowship in genitourinary pathology and obtained her PhD in pharmacogenetics. She is primarily based at PCL Alverno and interprets flow cytometry and FISH studies for complete hematopathology diagnostics.



Jie Song, M.D.

Jie Song, M.D., is a board-certified dermatopathologist, fellowship-trained at the University of Chicago. He received his medical degree at Beijing Medical University. Prior to his dermatopathology fellowship, he trained in anatomic and clinical pathology, and clinical dermatology. Dr. Song also has Master’s degrees in biochemistry / molecular biology and computer science. Dr. Song primarily serves at PCL Alverno, which provides a comprehensive immunohistochemistry panel for skin pathology diagnosis, and access to FISH testing for malignant melanoma. PCI pathologists collaborate and confer on difficult cases, providing both depth to our clinicians and confidence to the patients we serve.


Philip McGuire, M.D.
Medical Director, Cytopathology

Philip McGuire, M.D., is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist. He completed his M.D. at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Michael Reese Hospital. Dr. McGuire serves primarily at PCL Alverno Laboratories, where he is the Medical Director of Cytopathology.
