PCL Alverno November 2017 Test Bulletin - Important UHC information!

Effective today, UnitedHealthcare will require any physician who orders molecular or genetic testing to aquire a prior authorization before submitting the order to the performing laboratory.  

For your convenience, we have added links on our website to help you navigate the process.  It includes a list of previously ordered testing that now requires prior authorization.  If the test you would like to order is not listed on the form or in the BeaconLBS database, please contact us via email by clicking Client Service or by phone - 800-937-5521.  

Urine Creatinine                           
Effective immediately, all orders for random urine protein or electrolytes will include urine creatinine.  Creatinine is a useful tool when used in conjunction with other findings to evaluate kidney function.  

PCL Alverno October 2017 Test Bulletin

The October 2017 Test Bulletin is now available. 

The bulletin includes an announcement that oral fluid drug testing has been transitioned to Cordant Health Solutions™ 
For details on the oral fluid drug test panel, please see our collection manual.

New Reference Range CA 15-3:  ≤ 23.5 U/mL
Beckman Coulter has completed their evaluation of the upper reference limit (URL) for the CA 15-3 assay on their DxI Analyzers.  The previous URL was <31.3.  The new URL will improve the sensitivity for patients in non-remission. The new reference range will be in effect October 2, 2017.

Routine Coagulation Reporting Changes
Further improvements to positive blood culture organism identification coming this Fall!

If you receive your results via fax or through the USPS mail, your result format will change.  Take a look here to see what to expect.  Report formats in your EMR, IHIE reports, Epic, CareEvolve and Atlas, etc. will not be changing.

PCL Alverno September 2017 Test Bulletin

The September 2017 test bulletin is ready for your review.

This testing will become available this month and can be used to screen at risk groups or as an aid in diagnosis of active TB disease.  

This assay can be utilized to provide clinicians with a heparin drug level to assist with monitoring patient dosages.

PCL Alverno July 2017 Test Bulletin

The July 2017 Test Bulletin is complete. 

Page 1 includes an update on specimen collection for all serum electrophoresis testing.  Plese note that PCL Alverno will only accept primary tubes for serum electrophoresis testing. See the update for test names and volume requirements.

Page 2 gives detailed information on H. pylori testing, including information on the antigen stool testing performed at PCL Alverno.

Our June 2017 Test Bulletin is ready for your review. 

Page one includes a reminder that the Medicare Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) will change effective June 21, 2017.  Be sure to discard your old copies and upload or print new versions for your practice. It also includes a short list of FAQs related to blood lead testing. 

Indiana Medicare has issued a non-coverage update related to thrombophilia testing.  If you order such testing on Indiana Medicare patients, be sure to review  page 2.

Lead Testing Update! Additional Important Information!

Dear Healthcare Provider,

Centers for Disease Control has issued an Advisory related to lead blood testing. It is now believed that the vacutainer used is not at fault as previously communicated by the FDA. It is now being communicated that the LeadCare analyzer should no longer be used with venous blood samples.

In light of this new information, we have changed our procedure for lead testing and will be sending samples to ARUP.  Please read the details here regarding specimen collection and the acceptable vacutainers for lead testing sample collection and review the CDC Advisory for additional information.

Dear Healthcare Provider,

The FDA has issued a strong recommendation to immediately discontinue the use of BD Lavender and Tan Top EDTA vacuntainer tubes for blood lead testing.  Please read this for more details on the issue and which tubes will be acceptable for lead testing.
